The Global Leader in
Residence and Citizenship by Investment

Launch of 6th Edition of Global Residence and Citizenship Handbook

Wednesday 02 November 2016

The 6th edition of the Global Residence and Citizenship Handbook has been launched to coincide with the world’s most important investment migration event, the 10th Global Residence and Citizenship Conference, which takes place at the Savoy Hotel in London between 9 and 11 November 2016. The handbook is published annually by citizenship and residence advisory firm, Henley & Partners.

The Global Residence and Citizenship Handbook has become the essential guide to residence and citizenship planning for wealthy individuals and their advisors, providing comprehensive, up–to–date information and insights into residence rules, citizenship law, dual nationality, passports and visa-free travel, and much more.

Similarly, the annual Global Residence and Citizenship Conference brings together industry leaders, prominent experts, professionals and academics as well as presidents, prime ministers and senior government officials, giving delegates the unique opportunity to engage with the leading minds and ideas driving the current global trend towards greater mobility and global citizenship.

Dr. Christian H. Kälin, author of the handbook and Chairman of Henley & Partners, says the need to develop a diverse citizenship portfolio alongside the traditional investment portfolio is an increasingly important part of the sustainability strategies of wealthy families and individuals. “In many respects, citizenship has become a valuable and strategic asset for those who want to operate globally, reduce their exposure to risk, increase their international flexibility and open up new opportunities for growth. At the same time, more and more governments are seeing these residence and citizenship-by-investment programs as an innovative way of driving economic growth, securing much–needed foreign investment as well as enriching their own nation by attracting people to their shores that have proven business success, exceptional talents and valuable networks,” explains Dr. Kälin.

The 6th edition of the Global Residence and Citizenship Handbook contains new chapters on an additional three residence programs: Malaysia, New Zealand and Thailand. There is also a new citizenship-by-investment chapter describing the recently launched program in St. Lucia. Significant changes to the residence programs in Malta and Canada are reflected in this latest edition, along with a new chapter on The Henley & Partners – Kochenov Quality of Nationality Index, the first index to ever objectively rank the quality of nationalities worldwide.

Dr. Kälin says the continued expansion of this important reference tool reflects the concurrent strong growth in the investment migration industry. “Alternative residence and citizenship programs offer many exciting opportunities and have become a significant aspect of international private client planning. Already over 400 delegates from around the world have registered to attend next week’s conference in London, including government officials from 11 different countries as well as the President of Malta, and the Prime Ministers of St. Lucia and Antigua and Barbuda.”

Other keynote speakers at the 10th Global Residence and Citizenship Conference include Michael Portillo, journalist and former member of the UK Parliament; UNHCR Deputy High Commissioner, Kelly T. Clements; Founder of the Migration Policy Institute (MPI) in Washington D.C. and President of MPI Europe, Dr. Demetrios G. Papademetriou; Philosopher Alain de Botton; internationally acclaimed private client lawyer and author Philip Marcovici; and independent policy advisor and founder of the Good Country Index, Simon Anholt, among many others.
