We experienced a continued high level of interest in our services in Q1 at Henley & Partners UK and across Europe. In fact, we have received as many enquiries from potential clients in our region so far this year as we did in the whole of 2018. The number of enquiries is also significantly ahead of how many we received in Q1 last year, the current global state of affairs will undoubtedly only see this trend continue.
The vast majority of the enquiries we have received have come from the UK — in fact, we have received four times more enquiries from the UK than from any other country, and significantly more than we received in Q1 last year. The second-highest number of enquiries came from Turkey, which remains a constant source of interest in, and uptake of, Henley & Partners’ services. There has also been a spike in interest in investment migration from Romania, presumably due to the invasion of its neighbor Ukraine.
The Portugal Golden Residence Permit Program remains as popular as ever, topping the list of most enquired about programs. This seems intuitive when we consider that most of our enquiries came from the UK, as we have a large number of British clients looking to maintain their access to the EU after Brexit, and investing in Portugal is a popular way for them to do so. The Greece Golden Visa Program takes second place in terms of program enquiries in our region for many of the same reasons. Meanwhile, in a break from the norm, there has been a surge of interest in the Spain Residence by Investment Program — we received nearly as many enquiries for this country in Q1 as we did in the whole of last year. As ever, the St. Kitts and Nevis Citizenship by Investment Program and the Antigua and Barbuda Citizenship by Investment Program remain the Caribbean programs of choice, with both continuing to garner high levels of enquiries.
Against such an unstable geopolitical backdrop we envisage interest in residence and citizenship by investment to grow even further in Europe and the UK. Investors are becoming ever-more aware of the benefits of diversifying their domiciles, particularly via real estate-linked investment migration programs — which offer multiple yields over and above the real estate investment — and also of the services Henley & Partners provides.
